Florence

leave a comment »

Florence was a surprise.

It is a city where you could make your base there and explore the surrounding Tuscan cities due to it’s relative central location. Pisa, Lucca, Chianti etc…

It is a medieval city trapped in modern times with it’s antiquities sealed away in old brick museums.

But it is beautiful.

It has churches, bicycles and cobblestone streets with bridges and a river Despite it’s size, there are relatively fewer vehicles than what you might expect from a city this big. Cafes and gelato stalls dot the streets. Horses trot through the numerous squares an plazas.

You know those cities where you tell the love of your life you love them?

Florence is a city where you propose.

If nothing more from the fact that you can get a ring custom designed from the bridge shops above the river.

And it is small enough to make you feel like you own the place with just enough crowd as the audience.

And if you are alone. You’d just wish someone was there.

4.

Altes National Gallerie

This museum has the widest range of paintings from the classicism and romanticism periods. No abstract or Picasso paintings but still life, portraits and majestic scenes.

Battle of Marathon

“Ideas are bulletproof.” V

The battle of Marathon was the battle between the democratic Greeks and the absolutist Persians, victory for freedom prevailed.

When we run a marathon now, we run for freedom. For the idea that democracy prevails and in the hope that it continues to do so.

2500 years in the making, democracy still exists.

Here’s to another 2500.
